Cassius Philippe Zdar has died after accidentally falling from a high floor in a building in Paris on Wednesday, his agent Sebastien Farran
The French touch pioneer, born Philippe Cerboneschi, was 52.
Co-founding Cassius in 1989, Zdar played a huge part in producing some of the world’s biggest records, working with artists from Kanye to Cat Power to Franz Ferdinand.
A Cassius album, ‘Dreems’, had been planned for release tomorrow (June 21), and Zdar also produced Hot Chip’s forthcoming ‘A Bath Full Of Ecstasy’, also set for release tomorrow.
Cassius was a collaboration between Zdar and Hubert Blanc-Francard, known in the group as Boom Bass. Originally called La Funk Mob, they began recording in the late ’80s and early ’90s, releasing their debut Cassius album, ‘1999’, that year.
